Charging port

Charging port repair in Ipswich, at your door

If you have to hold the cable at an angle, or wiggle it until the little lightning bolt appears, the port is on its way out. Quite often it is not broken at all — it is packed with pocket lint. Either way we can sort it in the van on your drive, and we will tell you honestly which one it was.

What causes it

Why this happens

Pocket lint, compacted
Months of jeans and coat pockets pack fluff into the bottom of the port. The cable then cannot seat fully, so it charges slowly or not at all. This is the most common cause by a long way, and it is the cheapest to fix.
A bent or worn connector
Years of plugging in, plus the odd tug on the cable, wear the contacts inside the port. The connection becomes intermittent and the phone charges only in one particular position.
Liquid damage in the port
The charging port is the lowest point on most phones, so it is where spilt drinks end up. Corrosion on the contacts stops charging and can spread if it is left.
A snapped cable tip left inside
Cheap cables shed their tips. A piece left in the port blocks everything and cannot be pulled out without the right tools.

How long it takes

About 40 minutes at your door

A clean-out takes about 15 minutes. A full port replacement is around 40 minutes because the assembly usually sits under the battery.

What you get

  • The port cleaned out properly first, before anything gets replaced
  • A new port assembly fitted only if cleaning does not fix it
  • Wireless charging and audio tested afterwards where relevant
  • 12-month warranty on the part and the labour
  • No call-out charge anywhere in IP1–IP12

Questions

The things people ask

What if it just needs cleaning?

Then you pay for a clean, not a port replacement. We check that first, every time, and we show you what comes out.

Should I try cleaning it myself?

Gently, with something wooden or plastic and the phone switched off. Never a pin or a paperclip — the contacts are thin and easy to bend, which turns a free fix into a paid one.

My phone charges but very slowly. Same problem?

Usually yes, and usually lint. If the port is clean and it is still slow, the battery is the more likely culprit and we can check both in one visit.
