Back glass

Back glass replacement in Ipswich, at your door

A smashed back is more than cosmetic. It lets dust and water past the seal, it catches on everything, and the loose shards cut fingers. On most modern handsets the rear glass is laser-cut off and a new panel bonded on, which is a slower job than a screen but a very tidy one.

What causes it

Why this happens

A face-up drop
Phones land on their back about as often as their front. Rear glass is thinner than the display glass on many models, so it shatters more readily.
Wireless charging pads and grit
A single grain of grit between the phone and a charging pad, pressed in night after night, starts a crack that spreads across the panel.
Camera-ring cracks
The glass is weakest around the camera cut-out. Cracks very often start there and travel outwards, even from a knock that felt minor.
Pressure rather than impact
A phone in a back pocket, or at the bottom of a bag under a laptop, gets flexed rather than hit. Rear glass cracks under that sort of sustained pressure without ever being dropped, which is why people are often certain nothing happened to it.

How long it takes

About 50 minutes at your door

About 50 minutes. It is the slowest of the common repairs because the adhesive needs time to take, and rushing it is how you get a panel that lifts later.

What you get

  • The old panel removed and the frame cleaned back properly
  • A new rear panel bonded on, colour-matched to the handset
  • Wireless charging tested before we leave
  • 12-month warranty on the part and the labour
  • No call-out charge anywhere in IP1–IP12

Questions

The things people ask

Is it worth fixing if the phone still works?

If the crack has broken the seal, yes — dust and moisture get in and cause much more expensive problems later. If it is a single hairline and the seal is intact, we will tell you it can wait.

Will wireless charging still work?

Yes. We test it with you before we leave.

Can you match the colour?

For common colours, yes. For the rarer finishes we check availability before you book rather than turning up with the wrong one.

Can I use the phone straight away?

Yes, but leave it off a wireless charger for a couple of hours and keep it out of a tight case overnight. The adhesive is holding by the time we leave and fully set by the next morning.

The screen is cracked too. Do both at once?

Almost always worth it. The phone only gets opened once, it takes less time than two separate visits, and on most handsets the rear camera comes out from the back anyway.
